The Breath of Life

In Genesis 2:7, it is declared that "the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

 This Biblical passage explicitly encapsulates the profound belief that the soul enters the body when the baby takes its first breath -- implying that life begins at birth and not before; and that, therefore, to abort or not to abort should be at the sole discretion of the pregnant female. Scientific curiosity about this “soul moment” has led to observations of a purported 21-gram difference in body weight before and after death, which some speculate may represent the weight of the soul. Can this information be extrapolated to support the biblical Genesis view that the soul enters the body with the first breath -- at birth? This concept is worthy of consideration and challenges other positions as to when the first moment of life truly begins.

The Case for Pro-Choice

The soul comes into the body at birth with the breath and leaves the body at death with the breath. Upon analyzing the difference in the body's weight before and after death, it has been found that there is a difference of 21 grams considered to be the weight of the soul. This leads to the likelihood that the mother's body is preparing the fetus for the soul, introduced by the breath of life at birth.

There are a lot of well-meaning individuals that are passionate about protecting the unborn child. The current generation of zealots believe they are fighting for the protection of the "helpless" entity in the womb. The gestation of the physical body in the womb is preparing the physical fetus for the introduction of the soul at birth coming in with the breath.
